WHS speech takes third at divisional

Whitefish speech and debate brought home a third place finish at the Montana Class A Northwest speech and debate divisional tournament in Polson.

Whitefish finished with 56 sweepstakes points. Columbia Falls took first with 211 points followed by Polson with 61 points.

A few Bulldogs earned first place medals at the tournament. In policy debate, juniors Madison Grady and Sage Jackson took first, as did freshman Samuel Benkelman in serious oral interpretation.

The team heads to Havre this weekend to compete in the state tournament.

Results from the divisional meet:

Policy debate: 1. Madison Grady and Sage Jackson; 5. Jordan Reese and Rmi Strauser.

Lincoln-Douglas debate: 7. Kate Ehrenberg; 8. Che Roussel.

Original oratory: 5. Abigail Belcher.

Impromptu speaking: 4. Sloan Ellis.

Memorized public address: 5. Cassidy Grady.

Humorous oral interpretation: 5. Sloan Ellis; 7. Hunter Cripe; 8. Abigail Belcher.

Serious oral interpretation: 1. Samuel Benkelman; 8. Kolton Mohn.

Expository: 6. Chunyanuch Rektinkerd.

Rehberg to attend rally for Jesus statue

Montana Rep. Denny Rehberg will attend a public rally in Whitefish on Nov. 10 in support of the World War II statue of Jesus on Big Mountain. Rehberg will be at the VFW Post 276 on Baker Avenue at 1 p.m.
