Girls basketball: Bruins hold off Bravettes

HELENA — Back-to-back 3s by Emma Andrews and Jessika Abbrescia in the final seconds still left Flathead short as unbeaten and second-ranked Helena Capital escaped with a 45-44 Western AA girls basketball victory Friday night.
Abbrescia’s three was at the buzzer.
Capital held a 43-39 edge with 39 seconds remaining. Capital’s Sadie Pilgeram hit some key free throws between Flathead’s treys to keep the Bruins on top.
Andrews finished with 14 points. Emily Russell added 13 for the Bravettes (5-4 overall, 1-2 league).
Quinci Robertson had 10 for Capital (10-0, 4-0).
Flathead plays at Helena High today.

EUREKA — Columbia Falls used a strong second half, outscoring Eureka 34-25, to claim the nonconference victory.
Haley Belgarde tallied 24 points for third-ranked Class A Columbia Falls (9-4).
Cassidy Morgan paced Class B Eureka (7-6) with 15 points.

LIBBY — Hannah England nearly accounted for half of Libby’s offense, scoring 14 points in the nonconference win over Troy.
Her first nine points were on 3s and she finished with four treys for the night. Libby (3-9) led Troy at the half 19-11.
Jordan Williams, Breanna Opland and Alanah True-Silva had four points each for Troy.
