EPHRATA - A man is serving more than a year in prison for a 2011 Quincy drive-by shooting near North Park.

Jorge Tamayo, 22, of Quincy, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and residential burglary in Grant County Superior Court, according to court records. Prosecutors initially charged Tamayo with first-degree assault and drive-by shooting, according to court records. The charges were changed in the plea agreement.

Tamayo has a previous conviction for manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance, according to court records. When combined with his present convictions, he faced a sentencing range of a year to a year and two months in prison.

Grant County Superior Court Judge John Antosz sentenced Tamayo to the maximum end of the range.

The shooting occurred in June 2011. The victim, a gang member, was walking from North Park toward the railroad tracks when he heard one shot and felt a sting in his leg, according to a Quincy police report. He limped to a friend's house, who took him to Quincy Valley Medical Center for treatment.

A witness followed a Honda Accord from the scene to the home of a rival gang member. The witness recognized Tamayo in the car, according to the police report. The car was registered to Tamayo's girlfriend, and police discovered it outside of her residence.

Tamayo bragged about the shooting to a friend afterwards, according to the police report. He referred to the victim by his gang affiliation. Tamayo was part of a gang when he lived in California, but not a part of Quincy's gangs. He was friends with gang members.
