Wounded Warriors visit includes skiing, Carnival, public dinners

Eight warriors and their caregivers will be visiting Whitefish this week to experience Montana winter.

The Wounded Warrior Project in Whitefish is entering its fifth year of providing soldiers, sailors and airman with the opportunity to visit and participate in several winter activities. The Wounded Warrior Project is a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization dedicated to fostering wounded U.S. troops

During their time here, the warriors will go downhill skiing or snowboarding at Whitefish Mountain Resort, take a snowshoe tour and go snowmobiling in the Flathead National Forest. They will also participate in Winter Carnival festitivities inlcuding the Penguin Plunge and parade.

After arriving on Jan. 30, throughout their visit there will be the opportunity for the public to meet the warriors during formal and informal events. Wounded Warrior events begin with a welcome at the Glacier International Airport by the Patriot Guard from Polson.

The public is invited to several no host dinners including:

•The Kandahar Lodge on Jan. 30 at 6 p.m., reservations 862-6247.

• The Bierstube on Feb. 1 at 4:30 p.m.

• McGarry’s on Feb. 4 at 6 p.m., reservations 862-6223

• A formal dinner is planned for Jan. 31 at the Iron Horse Club House at $175 per person, reservations 863-3115.
