COEUR d'ALENE - A male suspect wearing a SpongeBob SquarePants mask robbed a drive-up coffee stand on Sherman Avenue Wednesday night.

The suspect displayed a handgun in the robbery, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash from the Lean Bean coffee stand, said Sgt. Brett Walton, of the Coeur d'Alene Police Department.

The suspect also was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt when he hit the stand, located on the northwest corner of Sherman Avenue and 13th Street.

Two women were working at the stand at the time of the robbery.

Police set up a perimeter around a roughly 15-square-block residential area to the north of the stand to trap the suspect, Walton said.

A K-9 unit from Post Falls responded to track the suspect, who was last seen fleeing on foot to the north.

"They got as far as they could with the dog and then they lost the track," Walton said.

Just after 7 p.m. police broke containment on the perimeter and detectives began processing the scene and interviewing the two women who were working at the time of the robbery.

Walton said images from surveillancecameras will likely be collected and be provided to the media to help identify the suspect.
