Heritage Days 3-on-3 hoops
Registration forms are available for those interested in playing in the Heritage Days 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament to be held in downtown Columbia Falls on Saturday, July 27. Categories include grades 5-6 boys and girls up to men’s open. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. High school golf practice
Columbia Falls High School students interested in golf should call or text coach Gene Marcille at 249-3693 for summer information and driving range schedule. The high school golf season starts Aug. 15th at 3:30 p.m. at Meadow Lake Golf Resort. Participants must have a physical on file before practicing.
Meadow Lake holes in one
Two golfers from Calgary, Alberta, hit holes in one this year at the Meadow Lake Golf Resort. Andrew Leung used an 8-iron to ace the 152-yard 12th hole on May 27. Witnesses included Eric Verlaan, Sergio Flores and Aaron Garden. Jay Haralson used a 9-iron to ace the 146-yard version of the 12th hole on June 7. Witnesses included Keith and Marilyn Armstrong, of Columbia Falls.
Flathead Lake paddle race
The 26-mile long Epic Shore to Shore Race will return to the Flathead on Aug. 10. The race down the length of Flathead Lake race is open to all paddlesports enthusiasts. The event also is a fundraiser for First Descents, a Denver-based non-profit organization that provides free outdoor adventure therapy for young adults with cancer. Teams or solo paddlers can enter the event, which also includes a 10-mile solo race, a 5-mile solo race and a fast-paced 4-by-2 relay race for teams. Hoops camp
Columbia Falls High School coach Cary Finberg’s basketball camps are coming up this month. Boys and girls grades 3-5 will play from 10 a.m. to noon July 22-24; grades 6-8 from 1 to 3 p.m.; and high school from 6 to 9 p.m. High school runs from July 22-25. Cost is $40 and athletes register at the door.

Canyon bike trail meeting May 16

Bill requires verification before issuing driver's licenses
A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.
Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.
Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
