Baseball: Mariners win opener at Firecracker tourney

POLSON — The Mission Valley Mariners beat Dillon 11-6 on the opening day of their Firecracker American Legion baseball tournament.

Dillon scored twice in the top of the first inning, but the Mariners responded with four runs on the bottom half of the frame and led the rest of the way.

Brennan Andrews batted 3 for 3 to lead the Mariners at the plate while Ryan Pablo and TJ Olson each went 2 for 3.

Jeremiah Crawford went the distance on the mound, allowing six earned runs on nine hits to earn the win.

POLSON — The Kootenai Valley Rangers hung on to defeat the Missoula Frontiers despite allowing two runs in the top of the seventh.

Austin Perez had two hits, including a double, for the Rangers, while Nick Rackley went 1 for 4 with three RBIs.

Sam Hannay allowed three earned runs on three hits in five innings to earn the win.

POLSON — The Glacier Twins’ B team went 1-1 on the opening day of the Firecracker Tournament.

Trevor Turgeon earned the win as the Twins beat the Mariners’ B team, while Daniel Satterfield took a loss as the Twins fell to the Missoula Frontiers.

The Twins play Kootenai Valley today at 11 a.m.

In other action, the Missoula Pioneers topped the Cranbrook (British Columbia) Bandits 8-6.
