Lumbermen alumni game draws sizable crowd; Capaul wins home run contest

COEUR d'ALENE - The Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen and Prairie Cardinal "AA" American Legion baseball teams will host the Spokane-Coeur d'Alene Fourth of July Wood Bat Classic, starting today.

In the Senior Division, Coeur d'Alene Pod will be the Pullman Patriots, Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs, Idaho Falls Bandits, Spokane Crew and Gallitin Valley Outlaws of Lewistown, Mont.

Prairie will host a pod at Post Falls High, featuring the Okotoks Dawgs (Alberta), Spokane Blue Devils, Spokane Baseball Club and Kalispell Lakers.

Junior Division Pods will be hosted at Coeur d'Alene and Lake City High.

COEUR d'ALENE - Current Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen pitching coach Zach Clanton earned the win as the post-2000 Lumbermen alumi team defeated the pre-2000 team 6-3 on Wednesday in front of an estimated crowd of 200 at Ramsey Park.

The post-2000 team scored five runs in the first inning to build a lead.

Kurt Ramsrud pitched four shutout innings for the pre-2000 team.

Earlier, Alex Capaul hit four home runs to win the Home Run Derby.
