ROYAL CITY - A 77-year-old Royal City man was walking to his fishing hole on the morning of June 26 when he was struck and killed by a truck near Royal City.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Manuel Orozco Garcia was apparently trying to cross Highway 26 with his tackle box and fishing pole about a half-mile east of Royal City.

Garcia reportedly walked into the path of a 2007 Sierra pickup and trailer and was hit. He died at the scene. The driver, Oscar Alejandro Nunez, 23, of Pasco, was not hurt.

Nunez was not at fault and will not be cited, according to WSP Trooper Darren Wright. Wright noted pedestrians have the right of way within reason, but Garcia was not at a crosswalk.
