MOSES LAKE - A boy reportedly playing with matches was responsible for the brush fire on West Peninsula Drive Saturday afternoon in Moses Lake, severely damaging a nearby home.

According to Moses Lake Fire Chief Tom Taylor, a field caught fire when a boy lit a match and dropped it. The fire quickly spread to an adjacent home on 4535 W. Peninsula Dr. The home was reportedly vacant and up for sale.

According to Moses Lake police reports, a local realtor was showing the home to a couple Saturday afternoon. The realtor reportedly had his grandson with him, who allegedly dropped the match in the field.

The realtor and the couple were unable to contain or extinguish the fire and the Moses Lake Fire Department was called about 4 p.m., according to reports.

Taylor said the home suffered significant damage in the fire. A nearby home north of the fire was also threatened but was not damaged.

Additional aid was provided by Grant County Fire District 5, "due to multiple calls at the same time," Taylor said.

Grant County PUD was also called to the scene for a downed power line, according to reports.
