EPHRATA - No decision has been made on whether the 14-year-old Moses Lake boy accused of shooting his parents will be tried as an adult or juvenile.

The boy is charged with two counts of attempted murder for allegedly shooting his parents while they slept on March 8. They survived the shooting.

His bail was set at $500,000.

Deputy prosecutor Steven Johnson said fellow deputy prosecutor Kevin McCrae and defense attorney Lylianne Couture said experts involved in the case needed more time.

There may be some developments at the next hearing on Aug. 12.

"All the evaluations should be completed by then and hopefully we'll have all the reports," Couture said.

According to the police report, the teenager allegedly took a .22 caliber pistol from a locked gun case, loaded it and went into his room to listen to music.

After around 90 minutes he allegedly walked into his parents' bedroom and shot them.

The boy's parents, Jon and Elizabeth Brooks, were transported to an out-of-area hospital.

The court has since ruled the boy's parents are allowed to visit him while he is in the juvenile detention center. However, the visits must be supervised and they cannot discuss the case.
