MOSES LAKE - The Spuds got back on the winning track with a 6-4 nonleague victory over the CDA Prairie Cardinals at Larson Field yesterday.
The win ends an eight-game losing streak and gives the team some much needed momentum heading into the BBCC Tournament this weekend.
The game was scoreless until the Spuds hung four runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning. The Prairie Cardinals answered back with two in the top of the fourth to close the gap to 4-2.
The Spuds added a run in the bottom of the frame to increase their lead to 5-2. CDA pushed two runs across the plate in the top of the fifth to make a game of it, 5-4. A run in the bottom of the seventh rounded out the scoring for the Spuds and the game, 6-4.
Chase Tunstall led the offensive attack for the Spuds with two hits in three at bats, with a double and a run scored. Jacob Price and Jerry Reyes had a double each.
Reyes got the start and went four innings, giving up two runs off one hit, while walking six and striking out nine Prairie Cardinals.
Blake Springer, who was called up from the Walleyes, threw five innings of four-hit ball to pick up the win in relief.
The Spuds dropped a make-up league doubleheader at home to the Selah Pepsi Pak Monday to fall to 8-16, and appear to be out of playoff contention.
The team is back in action this weekend when the Spuds host the Big Bend Community College Tournament at Larson Field.
The first game is scheduled to get underway Friday morning at 10 a.m.
