A clue for a successful daycare is that it's in its third generation of kids from a family. Another clue is it that it's opening its second center.

The new Hayden center for ABCD Daycare is schedule to open tomorrow at 3252 W. Robison (near Atlas Elementary) just north of Prairie Avenue. The preschool for children ages 2 1/2 through 5 has summer and school-year care.

Fred and Berta Bjurstrom started the original ABCD in 1969. That's where their son Andy met and dated his wife Chris and fellow employee there at age 17. They later married, had two of their own children, opened ABCD No. 2 in 1990 and took over No. 1 when his parents retired in 1994. They have 14 employees, several long-term.

Their daughter Ashley Lenz will manage four employees (more on the way) at Hayden, and Betsy Oberrich will manage the Cd'A place. Son Nik helps while he finishes his primary teaching degree.

ABCD hours are 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Phone 664-5013.

Here's your juicy Tidbits

- Next week: Tree of Life Organic Deli & Bakery.

- The large parcel of scraped dirt by Ginno Construction east of the former Post Falls Cinema is a new sales lot of adjacent Blue Dog R.V.

- Maverik Fuels Adventures gas and convenience store is under construction in the northwest corner of Ramsey and Hanley. More later.

- People always wish for a Trader Joe's. Sigh. Keep wishing...

- Style note: In writing numbers, single digits are words (one), and multiple digits are numerals (10). Exceptions include ages, weights and measurements, which are always numerals unless they're starting a sentence, and avoid that.

- "Mind your P's and Q's" comes from Olde England when the bartender would yell "Mind your pints and quarts" (meaning containers of ale) to rowdy customers.
