OSBURN - An Osburn building on the 800 block of East Mullan Avenue caught fire Tuesday, sending flames and smoke billowing high into the sky and causing multiple explosions within the burning structure.

Fire crews responded to the building, formerly the Longhorn Bar, just before 2 p.m. District 1 and District 2 fire departments were both on scene attempting to prevent the large flames from spreading to nearby homes and the Osburn branch of Wells Fargo Bank.

As the fire burned, several loud, booming explosions could be heard coming from inside the dense black and gray smoke. There were also several rapid-fire "booms" that sounded like very loud firecrackers.

At least two cars parked behind the home caught fire and were left completely charred, but no one was believed to be inside the building as it burned.

It was reported by firefighters working to keep the flames under control that temperatures inside the burning building were reaching as high as 1,000 degrees.

The black, gray and white smoke cascading into the clear sky was reportedly seen nearly eight miles away in Kellogg.

District 1 Fire Chief Jim Walker said the cause of the fire is still under investigation and currently there is no news to release regarding the fire.

The nearby Wells Fargo Bank was evacuated, and Avista turned off the power for the north side of East Mullan Ave.

Avista employee Terry Skantel said the power was expected to come back on after the fire was extinguished and Avista crews could re-insulate the power lines near the fire.
