A woman hiking between Goose and Duck lakes on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation was reportedly mauled by a grizzly bear over the weekend. The attack happened about 10:13 a.m. on July 12.

The woman was reportedly walking her dogs when she came upon a sow and two cubs. The sow reportedly killed one of the woman’s dogs and also attacked the woman. The bear was reportedly feeding on a horse carcass when the woman and her dogs came upon it.

She was able to get medical attention and was hospitalized. Blackfeet tribal police referred calls on the matter to the Blackfeet Fish and Game Department, but they did not immediately return a call seeking more information.
