EPHRATA - A Moses Lake teenager is going to jail for carrying a gun illegally.

Adolfo Chavez, 18, pled guilty to second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm in Grant County Superior Court recently. He was sentenced to five months in jail.

In June, Moses Lake police were on patrol at the intersection of Nelson Road and South Pioneer Road when they observed someone running from the Hill Top gas station, according to the police report.

Police attempted to make contact and were able to identify the man as Chavez. Chavez continued running and fled into an apartment complex on East Nelson Road.

According to the police report, Chavez was found hiding behind a bush and he eventually came out with his hands in the air.

Chavez told police that he was going to a friend's house.

While questioning Chavez, the officers noticed a small metallic object in the bushes.

Police identified the object as a Charter Arms .22 caliber revolver with one bullet inside. According to court documents, police found that Chavez was a convicted felon after searching his name.

Chavez was arrested and transported to Grant County Jail.
