Spuds drop thriller to Packers

WENATCHEE - The Spuds wielded lively bats in their last game of the season as the team pounded out 13 hits against the Apple Valley Packers in Wenatchee Tuesday evening. But their efforts fell short in the 10-9 road loss that saw the home team pull out the win in the bottom of the eight inning game.

The ball game couldn't have started of any better for the Spuds as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Brett Moser singled and stole second to get things rolling. A single by Brian Wulf scored Moser for the first run of the game.
Another single by Zack Wulf put runners on first and second. Chase Tunstall's double brought both home to put the Spuds up 3-0. Tunstall scored the teams' fourth run of the inning on a ground out by Nick Bailey.
The Packers got a run back in the bottom of the frame to close the gap to 4-1. Two runs in the top of the second pushed the Spuds lead to 6-1. Neither team scored over the next two and a half innings. But a four-run fifth gave Wenatchee its first lead of the game, 8-6.
Moses Lake responded with two runs in the top of the sixth to knot things up, 8-8, then regained the lead, 9-8 with a run in the top of the seventh. The Apple Packers, refusing to yield, tacked on a run in the bottom of the seventh and eighth inning to complete the come-from-behind win, 10-9.
Several Spuds turned in outstanding performances at the plate on the day.
The team was led by Zack Wulf who went four-for-four with three runs scored and two RBI.
Chase Tunstall had three hits in five at bats with a double, one run scored and three RBI. Brett Moser was three-for-four in the box with three runs scored, and Brian Wulf finished with two hits in four plate appearances, with two runs scored and one RBI.
Jerry Reyes got the start on the hill and gave up eight runs off six hits, while walking four Packers in four innings of work.
Mason Mathews and Colton Kelly gave up one run in two innings of relief, and Moser pitched and inning and a half in the closer role and was tagged with the loss.
