FLORENCE — The Bitterroot Bucs swept a Western A District American Legion baseball doubleheader against the Mission Valley Mariners Saturday, winning by scores of 8-2 and 8-7.

The Mariners outhit the Bucs in both games, but left a combined 19 men on base in the two seven-inning contests.

Bitterroot scored six runs in the first inning of its 8-2 win and cruised to a victory behind the pitching of Patrick Pape, who allowed two earned runs seven innings.

Tyler Thorson batted 2 for 3 with a home run and Kadin Beller went 3 for 3 with a double and a triple. Jared Young batted 2 for 3 to lead the Mariners.

The Mariners led 7-4 after six and a half innings of the other game, but the Bucs rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off win. Sage Hansen scored the winning run on a single by Austin Nogle. Hansen homered in the fourth and finished 3 for 3 with six RBIs. Thorson and Dylan Reed each batted 3 for 4 for the Bucs.

Alex Killian went 4 for 5 to lead the Mariners. Brennan Andrews was 3 for 3 and Ryan Pablo batted 3 for 5.

MISSOULA — The Mavericks’ A squad took control late in the first game of a doubleheader against Kootenai Valley, and rode that momentum to a con ference sweep.

With the Rangers leading 5-0, Missoula scored six runs in the final two innings of the opening game to win in a walk-off. That big push translated to five runs in the first inning of the nightcap, all the Mavericks would need in a five-inning shutout.

Galen Sullivan led the Rangers at the plate in the first game, going 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs. The Rangers had just four hits in the follow up, one each from Sullivan, Colin Henrie, RJ Glover and Joe Schlarman.
