Accused squatter arrested in Evergreen

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office got a report Sunday from a man who returned to his U.S. 2 home in Evergreen after being in Wisconsin for about a year only to find that a vehicle had been stolen; windows had been smashed on his house; tires, wood and other items had been stolen; and things were strewn about on his property. There was also an unknown trailer there. A man later was arrested for theft and criminal trespass, and two dogs were taken to the county animal shelter.
An Eastman Drive resident in the Bigfork area said his grandchildren were floating the Flathead River when they found a suitcase full of men’s clothes under water. The man ended up throwing the suitcase away.
There was a report of a garage broken into at a residence on U.S. 2 west of Kalispell, with a bunch of tools stolen.
A man was arrested for drunken driving on Riley Lane in the Columbia Falls area, and two dogs that were in the vehicle were impounded.
A person calling from a Montana 35 address in Evergreen requested assistance in getting an unwanted man to leave.
There was a report of an elderly transient causing a disturbance near the train depot in Whitefish. An effort was made to try to get the man some assistance.
There was a report of a suspicious vehicle on a Browns Meadow Road property. A deputy determined that the vehicle, which turned out to be stolen, had been stripped. It was towed to a local impound yard.
There was a report of a .45 handgun stolen from a Somers Road residence.
At about 11 p.m., there was a strange report regarding a truck pulling a boat on U.S. 2 West of Kalispell, with an intoxicated man apparently falling out of the vehicle and being left behind with scratches and a bump on his head.
Kalispell Police got a report Sunday regarding a car broken into on Hawthorn Avenue, with a Kindle stolen from it.
There was a report of a woman stealing beer from a store First Avenue East North.
There was a report of an unwanted man kicked out of a store on U.S. 93 South.
There was a report of two mountain bikes stolen from the south side of the Kalispell Center Mall.
A man reported that he was attempting to move out of a Conrad Drive residence, but two of his girlfriend’s friends were blocking his vehicle with another vehicle, refusing to let him leave. The parties were eventually separated.
After a traffic stop at Market Place Street and North Main Street, a teenage boy was arrested, apparently for drunken driving.
There was a report of a woman shoplifting at a store on Third Avenue East North.
Early Monday, at about 2:20 a.m., there was a report of a man assaulting someone at a Sixth Avenue West North residence.
There was a report of people attempting to break into a vehicle on Seventh Avenue East until one of the residents yelled at the suspects, apparently prompting them to flee.
A woman called Whitefish Police Sunday to report that two tires on a truck had been slashed at a Copperwood Court residence. A responding officer determined that the tires were old and appeared to have deflated on their own.
The Evergreen Fire Department responded Sunday to a report of about 10 people stuck on the log jam just north of the Montana 35 bridge on the Flathead River. It turned that no one was stuck; some floaters had attempted to recover a raft or kayak that has been stuck in the log jam. They were apparently unsuccessful and were able to float away safely without needing any assistance.
Various fire departments responded to several grass fires Monday afternoon. There were fires reported off of Old Steel Bridge Road, South Meridian Road and Pine Grove Lane.
