Alpine Theatre Project adds to its four-week celebration of “Broadway’s Best Week by Week” with a salute to Broadway’s best song and dance routines performed by some of Broadway’s best dancers.
“5, 6, 7, 8! Broadway’s Style & Rhythm” celebrates the style, rhythms and moves that have defined the American musical. It runs Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center in downtown Whitefish.
“As long as there has been Broadway, there has been dance,” said Betsi Morrison, Alpine Theatre’s artistic director. “The two have always gone hand in hand. We’re showcasing Broadway’s best dancers in some of the most memorable routines of all time.”
The show, directed and choreographed by six-time Broadway veteran Brian J. Marcum, will feature classic routines from such Broadway shows as “A Chorus Line,” “West Side Story,” “Chicago,” “Singin’ in the Rain” and “42nd Street.” Marcum has performed in the Broadway productions of “Spamalot,” “The Drowsy Chaperone,” “The Boy from Oz” with Hugh Jackman, “42nd Street,” “Saturday Night Fever” and the Gershwins’ “Fascinating Rhythm.”
Alpine Theatre has brought in numerous Broadway dancers (or “gypsies” as they’re called in the business) to recreate these classic routines. Gabrielle Ruiz has danced in the Broadway productions of “In the Heights” and “Evita.” Kristin Piro performed in the Broadway production of “Catch Me if You Can.” Kimberly Faure performed in the Broadway productions of “Nice Work if You Can Get It” and “Anything Goes.” Rommy Sandhu has danced in seven Broadway productions and was the main dance assistant in “Mary Poppins.”
Tickets are $29 to $39 with student and day-of rush discounts available. They can be ordered online at atpwhitefish.org or by calling the Alpine Theatre Project office at 862-SHOW.
