Lums fall; districts start Thursday

COEUR d'ALENE - Joe Roletto scored on a double in the first inning and hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh for the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen, who lost to the Missoula Mavericks 7-5 in a nonleague baseball game at Ramsey Park on Tuesday.

Coeur d'Alene (15-26) opens the Class AA Area A (district) tournament against the Prairie Cardinals at Harris Field in Lewiston on Thursday.

"We've been trying to set ourselves up and turn the corner over the last two weeks," Coeur d'Alene coach Lloyd Duman said. "We're starting to play pretty well. We played well in the Spokane-Coeur d'Alene Wood Bat tournament, at Clackamas and that swing through Montana. We're happy with how we're playing and doing what we hoped we'd do at the beginning of the season."

Shawn Montee hit a solo home run in the second inning for Coeur d'Alene.

Anthony Contonio had two RBIs for Missoula.

The No. 2 seeded Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen will face the third-seeded Prairie Cardinals in the opening game of the three-team Class AA Area A (district) tournament on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Harris Field in Lewiston.

All games are scheduled for nine innings.

Top-seeded Lewis-Clark (22-25) will play the winner of Thursday's game on Friday at 5 p.m.

The top two teams from the tournament advance to state starting July 31 at Rocky Mountain High in Meridian.
