Park Side uses member photos for 2014 calendar

Jessica DeVaan had passed by the scene off West Valley Drive a thousand times — two classic cars left to rust in a field where an old wooden silo and barn still stand.
As a full-time student at Flathead Valley Community College, it wasn’t until DeVaan took an elective photography class that she made time to stop and study the landscape through her camera lens.
Using 35mm slide film, DeVaan masterfully captured the contrast, shapes and story of the scene.
Her photo is now being used as the cover of Park Side Federal Credit Union’s 2014 calendar. Members of the credit union recently submitted photos for a calendar contest, and DeVaan’s image rose to the top.
DeVaan, originally from Somers, also won the 2012 Montana Journalism Review photo contest.
Other photos to be used in the Park Side calendar include scenes of snowy mountain peaks, Glacier National Park and fiery sunsets.
Whitefish photographer and longtime Park Side member Jill Courtney’s photo of a dramatic lightning storm over Whitefish Lake will be featured in the month of May.
