The Somers/Lakeside School District Trustees approved a 7.5 percent salary increase for Superintendent Paul Jenkins last week.

Jenkins, who recently completed his first year at the district, will receive $83,500 in the 2013-2014 school year.

District clerk Diane Fetterhoff said the trustees wanted to bring Jenkins’ per-day pay up to what principals at Lakeside and Somers schools earn. Jenkins made $77,800 last year, or $345.78 for each of 225 work days.

Trustees also approved an increase in pay for substitute teachers. Non-certified substitutes will get $70 a day, while certified subs will earn $75 a day.

Contracts for the remainder of the district’s administrative staff will be up for approval on Aug. 7 at 9 a.m.

These include Fetterhoff, who has worked for the district 14 years; Lakeside Elementary principal John Thies, 11 years; Somers Middle School principal, Lori Shieffer, eight years; and nurse, Jeanne Penner, one year.

The trustees will consider adoption of the 2013-2014 school budget Aug. 19 at 6 p.m.
