HAYDEN - The city of Hayden has talent and heart.
See for yourself this weekend at Hayden Days, two days of family fun happening today and tomorrow. The theme this year is "A Community with Heart."
"Every year it gets bigger, which is awesome," said Suzanne Cano, community services director for the city of Hayden.
The celebration begins at 2 p.m. with live music, food and craft vendors, children's activities and the Hayden Senior Center beer garden in the Hayden City Park, 8930 N. Government Way. The Paul Bunyan Cruise-In happens at 5 at Paul Bunyan Too, l8625 N. Government Way. Live music and dancing with the Kelly Hughes Band will be from 6-9 p.m. in the Hayden City Park.
Tomorrow's festivities include the Northern Lakes Fire Protection District all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast fundraiser at 7 a.m. at the fire department, 125 W. Hayden Ave. The Hayden Days Parade is at 10 along Government Way, beginning at Hayden Avenue and proceeding south to Honeysuckle Avenue.
The parade will include the 2013 Hayden Citizen of the Year and Grand Marshal Cathy Smith as well as plenty of fun floats, cheer squads and more.
As for road closures, Government Way will be closed to the public from 8:15 to 10 a.m. from Hayden Avenue to Miles Avenue and will reopen once parade units have passed. Beginning at 9:45, side streets from Hayden to Honeysuckle Avenue will be blocked off and reopen after the parade.
Auto lovers can enjoy the Hayden Days Car Show from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The afternoon will feature Zumba and square-dancing demonstrations. The "Hayden's Got Talent" show is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
"Last year, I went, I was blown away by the talent at the talent show," Cano said. "It was so popular that it is (now) the Saturday main event." About 21 acts will be performing in this year's show.
