ROYAL CITY - Royal City's Distinguished Young Woman, Morgan Small, will travel to Pullman next week to participate in Washington State's Distinguished Young Woman Program.

She will join 20 other young women from around the state. They will be able to get acquainted with each other as they share this experience together.

Small will stay with a host family for the week and have limited contact with her family and friends while she practices and prepares for the production.

This year's Distinguished Young Women program will take place on Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Beasley Performing Arts Center on the campus of Washington State University. Tickets are available from the WSU ticket office in advance or the evening of the program.

Small may receive well wishes in the form of letters, cards and packages during the week at her host family's address. She will be staying with Laura Preece, 615 SE Edge Knoll Dr., Pullman WA, 99163.

Small has another Distinguished Young Woman assigned as her roommate for the week. They will be shuttled back and forth from practices and community events by their host family.

Small was selected the Royal DYW in March. She looks forward to representing Royal City as she travels to and participates in the state program.

The national Distinguished Young Women program is held in Mobile, Alabama every June. Last month, Washington State's representative, Nicole Renard, from Kennewick, won that distinction. She was awarded over $37,000.00 in scholarship funds.

"Good Luck to Morgan as she heads off to state, and thank you for representing Royal City," Royal DYW Director Lisa Christensen said.

The state's three national winners of the Distinguished Young Women (formerly America's Junior Miss program) will emcee the Aug. 3 Washington state scholarship program.

Renard will join Washington's and America's Junior Miss winners Linda Felber, for 1964, and Lenne Jo Hallgren Best, for 1976, on stage during the evening of competition.
