Swimming incident leads to teen's death

A 19-year-old from Kingston died on Thursday night after a swimming incident on Rose Lake.

Gaelen C. “Conner” Mast had been swimming with friends when he didn't surface, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office.

After about one minute, Mast was pulled from the water by his friends and CPR was immediately initiated.

Members of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, Rose Lake Quick Response Unit, Coeur d'Alene Fire Department and Shoshone Ambulance responded to the 23500 block of E. Park Road at 7:50 p.m.

After a resuscitation effort was made on scene, Mast was airlifted by MedStar to Kootenai Health, where he was pronounced deceased.

The incident is under investigation.
