In memory of Lois Nickerson-Keenan, 96 Nov. 16, 1916 - July 24, 2013
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 11 years, 8 months AGO
Lois Corrine Nickerson was born in Lynn, Mass., to Davis A. and Selena Nickerson. She was one of seven siblings: Evelyn, Lucile, Raymond, Arthur, Dorothy and Barbara.
On July 3, 1942, Lois married George L. Keenan, aka “Bebe,” her partner for life!
Lois and George lived in several parts of the country, starting in Swampscott, Mass., where their four children, Pat, Rob, Bill and Tom, were born and raised until 1955. The family then trekked west to California. They made their home in Yucaipa, Calif., until 1975. Their final move was to Coeur d’Alene where they lived the rest of their lives. George passed away in 1995.
Lois was very involved at St. Pius X Catholic Church where she made longtime friends. Lois, affectionately known as “Nana” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, spent the last years at the Life Care Center, where she flourished — enjoying and living her way. She loved her “resort lifestyle” where her laundry, cleaning and cooking were taken care of, and life was good! She was an avid reader, especially romance novels, and Nicholas Sparks was a favorite author. She kept up with current events, politics and enjoyed watching her favorite DVDs.
But, her favorite activities were dining out with her family and talking on the phone. She made calls day and night to her extended family and friends across the country and we will all miss those “chatty” calls.
She is survived by four children, nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and sister Barbara (Kingston, N.H.).
Mom, Nana, Lois always said her goodbyes with a cheery “Toodle Loo!”
So “Toodle Loo” Special Lady, we will miss you!
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene.
