Cd'A Loggers lose heartbreaker to Prairie in A tourney
LEWISTON - James Prockish doubled twice and scored two runs for the Prairie Cardinals, which lost a semifinal game in the Class AA Area (district) A tournament 10-5 to the top-seeded Lewis-Clark Twins on Friday at Harris Field.
With the win, Lewis-Clark advances to the state AA tournament next week at Rocky Mountain High in Meridian. Prairie will face Coeur d'Alene in a loser-out game today at 1 p.m., with the winner advancing to state.
The championship game is scheduled for 5, with an if-necessary game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
"We played very well offensively, but struggled defensively in the fifth inning," Prairie coach Dustin Frank said. "I'm looking forward to seeing how we respond for (Saturday's) game (against Coeur d'Alene)."
Chris Cornican scored three runs for Lewis-Clark (23-25).

COEUR d'ALENE - Daren Romero went 3 for 4 with two RBIs as the Lewis-Clark Cubs scored seven runs in the fifth inning, defeating the Prairie Cardinals 12-3 in a second round game in the Class A Area A tournament at Ramsey Park.
Zach Ricard had two doubles and two RBIs for Lewis-Clark, which faces St. Maries at 7 p.m. tonight, with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship game.
In the late game, with St. Maries leading 7-2 in the fifth inning, two players from Moscow were ejected, one for throwing his batting helmet and the other for throwing his bat following the bottom of the fifth inning.
Moscow, which entered as the tournament's top-seed, had only eight players and were unable to continue the game.
They're scheduled to play Orofino today at 2 p.m. in a loser-out game, but it was unknown at press time if those players ejected would be allowed to play.
Dalton Strong went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for Prairie against Lewis-Clark.
Later, Trystan Valente hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Cardinals the lead for good as they beat the Coeur d'Alene Loggers 5-3 in a loser-out game.
Prairie will face the winner of the Orofino-Moscow game at 4:30 p.m. today in another loser-out game.
Coeur d'Alene - which committed five errors in the game - was eliminated.
Earlier, Brody Larsen went 2 for 2 with a two-run single in the first inning, leading the Coeur d'Alene Loggers past Camas Prairie of Grangeville 8-5 in a loser-out game.
Stephen Vaudreil had a three-run single in the fourth inning and Dominic Conigliaro hit a solo home run in the second for Coeur d'Alene.
In other games, Scotty Lee struck out 11 and hit a three-run home run in the first inning as Orofino defeated Priest River 8-0 in a loser-out game.
