POST FALLS - When Louise Height moved to North Idaho 13 years ago she needed a boost.
And the Post Falls Food Bank provided one.
"I came here wishing for a better life - and with not a whole lot of money," she said.
The food bank, she said, helped bridge the gap until she got settled with her boys.
Ever since, she has been giving back to the nonprofit and she's expanding those actions with year by organizing the Cruisin' the Moon Open Car Show on Saturday, Aug. 10 at Moon's Mongolian Grill, 1901 E. Seltice Way.
"What comes around goes around," she said of assisting the food bank. "The food bank is near and dear to my heart. We're hoping to make this an annual event."
Height believes the car show will be a good fit.
"In talking with my friends, since we don't have the (River City) Rod Run anymore, they thought, 'Why don't you take on something like that as a way of giving back to the community,'" Height said. "I want to give back to this area. It's such a fantastic area to live in."
The show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to vote on their favorite vehicles. There will be trophies for 13 classes, including one for the kids' choice. Show attendees and car owners will be the only judges.
Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring in food donations for the food bank. For each can of food, one raffle ticket will be given. Prizes include stay-and-play packages at area hotels, a 42-inch TV, bicycle, adirondack chair, bar stools and more.
There will be music and concessions and T-shirts for sale.
Cars are being sought. Pre-registration is $15. Registration on the day of the show is $20. The food bank will receive $5 from each registration. Registration starts at 7 a.m.
To register or for more information, call Height at 660-5702.
