COEUR d'ALENE - A 58-year-old transient was found lying unconscious along the shoulder of U.S. Highway 95 on Sunday just before midnight, and he later died after being taken to a hospital.
Sgt. Christie Wood of the Coeur d'Alene Police Department said his death is not suspicious.
"He had no obvious trauma to his body," she said.
His name wasn't released Monday because the family hadn't been notified of his death.
He was lying on the east side of the highway, on the north end of the Interstate 90 overpass.
Responding officers found no pulse, and started CPR.
Emergency medical personnel arrived, provided some on-scene care, then took him to Kootenai Health's medical center in Coeur d'Alene.
"Doctors worked on him for quite some time before he was pronounced dead," Wood said.
She didn't know who reported the man lying near the highway.
"I would imagine there were several passers-by who saw him," she said.
He was possibly from the Orofino, Idaho, area, she said.
