MINERAL COUNTY - When Cabin Fever Quilter Nicki Clyde was asked to be the featured quilter at this year’s quilt show by Susan Charles she used what she admits is a technique borrowed from her two-year-old granddaughter.
“I just said ‘no, no, no,’” Clyde said laughing. “It works for my granddaughter but not for me.”
Clyde’s hesitance at being featured quilter did not come from a lack of experience, she has been a member of the Cabin Fever Quilters for 12-years, rather her consistent emphasis on the efforts of the group as a whole and the importance of the group.
“It’s been amazing,” Clyde said of being a member of the guild. “We just kind of think it up as we go and collaborate and motivate each other to get our projects done.”
Clyde began her first quilting projects under the tutelage of her grandmother and when she joined 4H she continued learning and improving her skill.
Every year the guild works together to create a quilt that will be raffled off on the last day of the Mineral County Fair in Superior and the theme for this year’s quilt is ‘Places of the Heart’ – a retrospective on the history of Mineral County.
“We had the idea to do the retrospective and it kind of took over itself,” Clyde said. “It turned out to be a nice reflection of the county and its history.”
Prior to each quilt show, local non-profits are encouraged by the guild to provide a letter with why their organization is deserving of the raffle proceeds. This year, the Pioneer Council of Mineral County was selected as the recipient of the funds.
The quilt show, which runs in conjunction with the Mineral County Fair, exhibits quilts made by local quilters who utilize a variety of techniques while preparing their creations.
Hours for the show are 10:00 am – 6:00 pm every day of the fair in the multipurpose room of Superior High School.
Visitors to the quilt show will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite quilts, shop at a boutique of handmade quilted items and crafts, win a raffle basket of quilting and sewing supplies, and win door prizes.
For more information about the show you may contact Susan Charles at 396-4731.
