COEUR d'ALENE - Following what could be described as a criminal price markdown, police are looking for a female customer who shopped at Wiggett's Antique Marketplace on Friday.
According to a police report released Tuesday, a woman purchased a rare and ornate music stand, valued at $1,250, for $145. She allegedly switched price tags with another item.
The owner of Wiggett's told police he saw the woman on a surveillance video as she removed the $145 price tag from a small magazine rack in the consignment room on the lower level of the store, which is located at 115 S. Fourth St.
There was no camera in the booth where the antique music stand was on display, but the woman was seen purchasing the stand at the register.
The store owner said the woman didn't want to pay with a check or credit card, and left the store to go to a nearby bank cash machine.
The store offers items on consignment, and the owner of the music stand wasn't present at the time of the sale. The cashier who waited on the customer wasn't familiar with the music stand and its value.
A store employee who was working at the time of the incident said the woman declined an offer by store employees to help carry items she purchased to her vehicle.
Employees described the woman as in her early 50s, white, about 5-foot-7, 160 to 180 pounds, with long brown hair worn up and "sun-wrinkled skin."
