Meet the Harbor House
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 11 years, 7 months AGO
COEUR d'ALENE - Construction of the 15-acre McEuen Park is well under way. When completed next year, McEuen will have several amenities from a dog park to a splash pad for kids. This week's City Streets takes a closer look at one of those amenities, the Harbor House.
Location: Southwest corner of the park near Tubbs Hill.
Architect: Miller-Stauffer Architects in Coeur d'Alene.
Features: Restrooms, concession area, drinking fountain, covered canopy, heating for winter use.
Design highlights: Historical signs depicting the 100-plus years of uses on the park site may be on the outer walls. The steeple will be wired for lighting and sound.
Sponsors: Coeur d'Alene Rotary and Sunrise Rotary clubs.
Concessions operator: Requests for Proposals likely will go out later this year.
Current status: The site has been excavated and soon the building foundation and structure will be completed.
Interesting fact: The House will sit atop a 60,000-gallon irrigation tank. Lake water will be pumped into the tank and used to irrigate the new park.
Quote: "It will be one of the first amenities to be built," said City Parks Director Doug Eastwood. "It is a very nice structure and will serve the public well."
Meanwhile, an update on the rest of McEuen Park's construction progress:
Crews are working on the back wall of the parking structure, building trails and fine grading the park. The South Trail at the base of Tubbs Hill has been paved and landscapers are planting grass on the south side of City Hall.
Closures: The Third Street boat launch is closed until Sept. 30. The dock, however, is available for moorage all summer. Sherman Avenue between Second and Fourth streets is closed until June 14 for stormwater installation on Third Street. The road will reopen in time for Car d'Lane.
