MOSES LAKE - London Cleverly, senior outside midfielder for the Moses Lake High School Girls Soccer Team has signed a letter of intent to enroll at and play soccer for Wenatchee Valley Community College (WVCC).

"I am really excited to be attending WVCC," Cleverly said. "I've always wanted to play soccer outside of high school."

Cleverly was offered a full-ride scholarship to become part of the Knights team.

"They saw me play a few games and were impressed," she said. "I received another offer from Bellevue Community College. They wanted me to commit in January, but I wanted to wait until after the track season was over. They didn't want to wait that long for me to commit and wouldn't hold a spot for me. But Wenatchee was willing to, so that was a big factor in my decision. Plus it's closer to home, so my family and friends will be able to watch me play. And, I'll be able to come home and watch my girls at the high school play too."

Cleverly has played soccer for more than 12 years. She played Moses Lake Youth Soccer, made the varsity team at Moses Lake High School as a freshman, and helped the Chiefs win two district titles and earn their first appearance in the state tournament.

At the end of her freshman year she joined the CB United Girls '94 team and was a member of the squad that placed second in the US Club State Cup, and won the Nike Crossfire Challenge, a premier level soccer tournament held in Redmond, last year.

The team was invited to attend the US Club Super Cup last January, and will be attending the US Club Regional Tournament at the end of this month.

Cleverly's love of soccer inspired her senior project; a soccer camp for people with special needs that was capped off by an exhibition soccer game to raise money for the Special Olympics.

She was also a four-year varsity member and a major contributor on the Moses Lake High School Girls Track Team. She missed out on a state bid this year in the 400 meters, which her mother Kim said is her "specialty event."

But, she was the anchor of the 2013 record setting 4X200 and 4x400 relay teams.

Cleverly said she'll miss running track, as WVCC does not compete in the sport. But she hopes to transfer to a four-year university and get an opportunity to play both sports.

"I'd like to attend BYU," she said. "I plan to major in exercise science."
