The city of Hayden said Monday a vote has been scheduled for June 11 for annexation of more than 300 acres that includes a proposed sports-field complex.

Connie Krueger, community and economic development director for the city, said the city has received signed annexation agreements from all of the property owners involved with what's being called the "Bluegrass annexation."

This development clears the way for the annexation process to be finalized.

"The individual property owners in the Bluegrass annexation have each wanted to discuss the provisions within their specific annexation agreement," Krueger said Monday. "This has taken some time, as has obtaining signatures on agreements."

North Idaho Sports Complex LLC owns 80 acres north of Prairie Avenue and east of Huetter Road on the Rathdrum Prairie. The Coeur d'Alene Sting soccer club would be the anchor tenant of the sports-field complex.

John Swallow, a managing member of North Idaho Sports Complex, said, "We appreciate everybody getting together and getting this done."

The two other primary members of North Idaho Sports Complex are Andy Barrett and Mike Thompson. Barrett and Swallow have kids playing in the Sting soccer club. Thompson is director of the club.

"Now we're off to the special-use permit process," Swallow said.

A special-use permit would be needed because the property isn't zoned for sports fields.

Swallow said the permit process will include public hearings which will provide for plenty of public input.

"We appreciate everybody's support as we move through the process," Swallow said.

The Press reported late last week that Kootenai County posted a stop-work notice on North Idaho Sports Complex's property because work was ongoing without necessary approvals.

The county also posted a warning notice at the site, saying the property owners are illegally storing numerous large rolls of artificial turf on the property. The warning said such storage is not permitted on property in the agricultural zone.
