The Hockaday Museum of Art will hold its annual Plein Air Paint Out event June 19-21, during which participating artists are given the freedom to choose their painting location from any public park or forest area within a 50-mile radius of the museum.  

During the three days, artists will create as many paintings as they can, rain, shine, or snow, with those works being sold to benefit the museum.  The event is now in its sixth year and has become a favorite of art lovers seeking acquisition of original works featuring familiar landscapes and scenery.

Plein air is a French expression which means “in the open air,” and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors. The Hockaday’s Plein Air Paint Out attracts top artistic talent and artists are juried into the event by a local panel of experts representing diverse art-related backgrounds.  

The participating artists in this year’s include: Rob Akey, Nancy Dunlop Cawdrey, Elaine Davis, Marsha Davis, Merrily Dunham, Keith Filler, George Garrity, Margaret Graziano, Betsey Hurd, Allen Jimmerson, Mary Kelley, Thomas G. Lewis, Jeff Manion, Robert Marceau, Jennifer McClellan, Patrick McClellan, Dave Mihalic, Wanda Mumm, Natalie Norrell, Nicholas Oberling, Mark Ogle, Robert Spannring, Rebecca Strenge, Janet Sullivan, Linda Tippetts and Ron Ukrainetz.

The party and sale will be held outside the museum in the Centennial Pavilion Tent on Saturday, June 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. Admission to the event is free and guests may purchase art at fixed prices. Works from the paint out will be placed on exhibit and remain for sale through Aug. 24.
