Robert J. Wachter Sr. passed away at his home on May 5, 2013. He was born May 6, 1924, in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Robert moved to Hauser Lake when he was 9 months old. He went to school in Rathdrum and following graduation he joined the U.S. Navy in 1944. After his service duties he returned to Hauser Lake where he met and married Shirley Hughes on Nov. 22, 1947.

Bob and Shirley had three children, Sally Kohn of Hauser Lake, Robert J. Wachter Jr. of Athol and Joseph Wachter of Hauser Lake. He had nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Robert worked at Coeur d’Alene Stud for 18 years, worked in Grand Coulee erecting electrical towers, and co-owned and operated Alpine Lumber in Dover with Dick Colton. He was a volunteer with the American Legion Post No. 143 for 20 years. Chaplain duties were included in his volunteer services.

The Wachter family would like to express their deepest thanks and appreciation to North Idaho Hospice, especially Shauna and Julie. They were absolutely wonderful. English Funeral Chapel, Post Falls, was entrusted with the final arrangements.
