Lakeland names Teacher of the Year

RATHDRUM - Linda Bruner, a math teacher at Mountain View Alternative High School, was named the Lakeland School District's Teacher of the Year at a recent awards banquet at The Coeur d'Alene Resort.
The district's Elementary Teacher of the Year was Kelli Shanholtz, a kindergarten teacher at Athol Elementary.
Bruner has been with the district since 1991, while Shanholtz has been with the district since 2008.
Other Teacher of the Year awards for individual schools went to: Ashley Sapp, Athol; Aaron Hayes Lisa Brandal and Julie Leonard, Betty Kiefer Elementary; Lynn Paslay and Cassie De La Cruz, Garwood Elementary; Betty Mobbs and Debbie Derrick, John Brown Elementary; Ann Matlock and Elaine Tobin, Spirit Lake Elementary; Julie Kinzer and Shannon Rider, Twin Lakes Elementary; Honey Jean Tinsley, Matt Neff and Alie Small, Lakeland Junior High; Denise Anerson, Colleen Hall, Katie Salie, Sherene Schilling and Kim Suko, Lakeland High; Keith Neuberger and Bill Rider, Timberlake Junior High; and Mike Anderson Cameron Knigge and Kellie Rhodes, Timberlake High.
Support Staff of the Year included: Janice Bitner, Athol; Sam Gamble, Betty Kiefer; Wendy Ziesmer, Garwood; Ursala Barnett, John Brown; Debbie Knoll, Spirit Lake; Maria Mulligan, Twin Lakes; Heidi Cowperthwaite, Lakeland Junior High; Christine Duarte, Lakeland High; Wayne Mawhirter, Timberlake Junior High; Sandra Puckett, Timberlake High; and Lara Carr, Mountain View.
Department honorees were: Lee Isbell, technology; Mike Ferriola, maintenance; and Rod Heitstumann, transportation.
Superintendent Mary Ann Ranells presented Memoriam Awards to the spouses of Dennis Kimberling and Terry Kyker who died during the school year. Kyker worked in maintenance and Kimberling was head of the Lakeland STRIVE program.
Superintendant Legacy Awards went to Tom Taggart, the district's finance director; Colleen and Shannon Hall, both of Lakeland High; and Vicki Buchert of Spirit Lake Elementary.
