Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 11 years, 7 months AGO
Dotti Horan, 74, of Post Falls passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Kootenai Medical Center. She was born on March 24, 1939, in New Brighton, Pa., to Lillian and Kenneth Elgin. Dotti is predeceased by her husband, parents and baby sister, Nancy. Dotti was married to Dennis Horan for 51 years, the love of her life that she lost in 2009. She has happily gone to join him and they are most likely skiing in Jackson Hole or Telluride or snorkeling in some exotic Caribbean reef.
In 1948, Dotti moved to Pasadena, Calif., where she met her husband Dennis Horan while singing in the St. Elisabeth’s Catholic Church Choir in Altadena under the direction of his mother, Lynette (Weber) Horan. In 1968 Dennis and Dotti moved to Coeur d’Alene and after the kids fled the nest, they moved to Post Falls in 1987 where they enjoyed watching the rhythm of the river which included a love for water sports.
Dotti was an accomplished soprano who served in many lead roles for the Coeur d’Alene Community Theatre. She bowled and played tennis for the 3 C’s Cancer League. In addition to being a dedicated mother and wife, Dotti’s passions were cooking, entertaining and watching the wildlife on their river home. She enjoyed snow skiing, playing cards and crafting with her friends. While her culinary and social skills were exceptional, she had a passion for the simple things in life; lunch at Hudson’s was one of her most favorite things to do. She loved her pet cats and her Newfoundland dog “Jake.”
Dotti’s kindness, generosity and zest for life will live on in her four children who adored her; Greg, Mark, Lynette and Dave Horan, and six grandchildren.
A celebration of life is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel. Please visit Dotti’s memorial and sign her online guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
