June Rose Tripp, 84, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Prestige Assisted Living Center in Kalispell. She was born on June 15, 1928 in Lewistown to William Garnett and Carrie M. (Bagwell) Roberts.
She grew up on her parent’s ranch in Garfield County on the Lower Musselshell River. June attended the first four grades in a one-room school, then attended Lewistown Schools through sophomore year and graduated from Garfield County High School in Jordan. That fall she moved to Billings and went to Billings Business College and also worked for a time.
On November 9, 1947 June married George W. Tripp in Miles City and lived on the Tripp Ranch west of Jordan until 1957. At that time they moved to a ranch at Niarada to be closer to schools.
June worked at the Niarada Store, Cafe and Post Office. In 1970 she became Postmaster in Niarada. When the bar and Post Office building burned in 1989 she finished her last year of postal service at the Hot Springs Post Office. In 1992, after 35 years on the ranch; they sold, retired and moved to Kalispell.
Growing up on the ranch, June did a lot of riding for her father and also bucking hay and hauling water with a team of horses. She always enjoyed the ranch work, but also being post master gave her the opportunity to socialize with neighbors and keep up with their kid’s activities. Her special pleasure was her family and all the activities they were involved in; with her family get togethers being the best of all. Her animals were important to her and she felt fortunate to have very special dogs and horses and was very happy chasing cows.
June was preceded in death by a brother Bill; a sister Mary Ruth; two sons, Lee and David; and a granddaughter, Kaylee Rose.
She is survived by her husband, George; four children, Bill (Merry) Tripp of Kalispell, Teresa (Rusty) Raisland of Townsend, Lynn (DeAnne) Tripp of Kalispell, and Carrie Stephens of Hillsboro, Ore.; she is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
