Motorcyclist dies after collision with deer

A Bigfork man was killed Monday morning after his motorcycle struck a deer on Montana 83 just north of the Montana 209 intersection at Ferndale.

The crash occurred at mile marker 83 shortly before 7 a.m. 

The man was identified by the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office as Bigfork resident William Steven Ward, 60.

Ward was the only person on the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is under investigation by the Montana Highway Patrol.

Ward’s death is the fourth on Flathead County highways in the past six days.
