Injuries, fatalities reported in accidents

HAYDEN - A 53-year-old Spirit Lake man had to be extricated from his vehicle and transported to Kootenai Health following a single vehicle accident Monday at the intersection of Lancaster Avenue and U.S. 95 in Hayden.
The wreck occurred around 1:50 p.m. when Timothy Tuttle's 1995 Nissan pickup truck was traveling northbound on U.S. 95, Idaho State Police reported.
Tuttle's vehicle entered the median for unknown reasons, struck the traffic light support pole between the north and southbound lanes, rolled over and came to rest on the driver's side door, police reported.
Tuttle, who was trapped with part of his body outside the driver's side window and was pinned to the road, was extricated from his vehicle after firefighters cut through the roof.
He was listed in serious condition in Kootenai Health's ICU on Monday evening, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Southbound U.S. 95 and East Lancaster Road traffic was shut down for about two hours after the crash, which remains under investigation, police reported.
Idaho State Police, Kootenai County Sheriffs Office and Northern Lakes Fire District emergency crews responded to the scene.
* Later in the day, a Spokane woman died in a head-on collision on U.S. 95 near Chilco Road at 4:03 p.m., police reported.
Mikki J. McGoldrick, 70, was southbound on U.S. 95 at milepost 442 when her 1998 Volvo S70 went left of center and struck a 1999 Dodge pickup truck driven by Teresa L. Valliant, 58, of Sagle.
McGoldrick was pronounced dead at the scene, police reported, while Valliant was not injured.
U.S. 95 was closed for several hours due to the crash, which remains under investigation.
* A 22-year-old St. Maries man died after his car collided with a logging truck Monday afternoon on State Highway 5.
Wade W. Norton was eastbound on Highway 5 when his 1999 Plymouth Neon swerved in front of a westbound logging truck driven by Neal R. Gernert, 53, of Hayden, Idaho State Police reported.
Norton, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. Gernert was transported to Benewah General Hospital with unspecified injuries.
The eastbound lane of Highway 5 was blocked for three hours due to the crash, police reported.
