Family Fun Night in Troy recently was attended by150, and it was an event hosted by the Public Health Department-Best Beginnings Council, Troy’s New Horizon Learning Center/After School Program and Lincoln County Unite for Youth Coalition.

Despite a rainy evening that curtailed the outdoor activities, the event was a huge success, said Val Shaver.

“It was a spinoff from last year’s Who’s Driving the Bus Talent show (in honor of Ralph Stever) that grew in to the idea of what it’s become — Family Fun Night.

The evening allows parents to spend time with their children, while connecting them with important community resources, participate in educational courses, enter to win door prizes, eat dinner and enjoy watching their children participate in the annual talent show sponsored by the New Horizon’s Learning Center/After School Program.

“We’re so grateful to Micki Carvey, the Lincoln County public health nurse, and her assistant, Marci Johnson, and the Best Beginnings Council,” Shaver said. “If not for them we would not have been able to pull off an event that included such wonderful door prizes and the bike rodeo.”

Best Beginnings/Public Health purchased the bike helmets and each child was given one of these helmets to take home.

“What a wonderful opportunity to increase the health and safety of our kiddos and community,” Shaver said.

The evening, which was held at both W.F. Morisson Elementary School and the Troy Activity Center, featured a bike rodeo by Neil Duram of the Montana Highway Patrol, Laurie Faulkner of the Troy Police Department and Glenda Cady of the Flathead Valley Chemical Dependency Clinic and drawing was held for a new bicycle.

Also included was a talent show, face painting, a bouncy house, a nutritional booth, dinner and door prizes were awarded of numerous $25 and $50 gift certificates.
