Coeur d'Alene takes two to open Apple Valley tourney
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 11 years, 7 months AGO
WENATCHEE, Wash. - Colby Kennedy scattered five hits and Gibson Green and Joe Roletto drove in two runs each as the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen beat the Columbia Basin River Dogs 9-1 in their first game of the Apple Valley Packers Tournament on Friday at Rec Park.
Kennedy struck out four for Coeur d'Alene (5-8).
"He had control of everything, and it made him tough to beat," Lums assistant coach Zach Clanton said. "He got in trouble in his first couple starts because he was a one-pitch pitcher."
Green, who made his Legion season debut earlier this week after suffering a pulled hamstring playing for Coeur d'Alene High in the state championship game, doubled and tripled for the Lums.
In their second game Friday night, Suraj Kedia struck out nine and scattered five hits as the Lums whipped the Spokane Cannons 15-1 in five innings.
Green drove in three runs, two on a triple in a six-run third inning. Brett Robbins capped the scoring with a two-run triple in the fourth. Coeur d'Alene scored seven in the first inning.
"It was more contagious than anything," Clanton said, "everybody stringing hits together."
Today, Coeur d'Alene plays the Spokane 49ers and the Wenatchee Packers.
