DILLON — The Mission Valley Mariners won their second American Legion baseball tournament of the season on Sunday with a 9-6 victory over the Bitterroot Bruins in the championship game of the Maybelle Arthur Tournament.
The Mariners earlier in the day dumped the Missoula Pioneers 11-1.
Mission Valley (17-9) finished the four-day event with a 4-1 record.
Jeremiah Crawford, the offensive MVP of the tournament, had a spectacular final day. In the championship game, he singled, tripled and homered and totaled two RBIs for the Mariners.
In the victory over the Missoula Pioneers, he doubled and had three RBIs.
“He was on fire this weekend,” Mariners coach Jami Hanson said of his slugger.
“Every time he came up, he smacked the ball somewhere. It was nice to get him back in the lineup.”
Crawford had been sidelined with a hyperextended elbow.
Mission Valley third baseman Ryan Pablo was named the tournament’s defensive MVP.
“All in all, a great weekend,” Hanson said.
Mission Valley scored six runs in the fourth inning to take command in the championship outing.
Zeke Wester-Yaqui tossed a 2-hitter in the win over the Missoula Pioneers.
He had five strikeouts in that five-inning contest and walked just one batter.
He also led the Mariners in hitting with two singles.
Brennan Andrews doubled in that contest for Mission Valley.
