Lumbermen fall twice,to play in third-place game
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 12 years, 3 months AGO
WENATCHEE, Wash. - In the opening game of the day, the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen overcame eight errors, but couldn't overcome a rule change - falling to the North Spokane 49ers 9-8 in a round robin game in the Apple Valley Packers tournament on Saturday at Rec Park.
With runners on first and third, Coeur d'Alene attempted a pickoff play - but Legion rules were changed this summer, resulting in them balking in the winning run.
"You can't do that third to first move this year," Coeur d'Alene pitching coach Zach Clanton said. "It was kind of the way we expected it to end with the way we played defensively."
Later, Gibson Green, Devin Kluss and Colby Kennedy had two RBIs each as Coeur d'Alene (5-10) lost to the host Wenatchee Valley Packers 9-7 and will play in the third place game today at noon against the Spokane Cannons.
