A woman died in a north Kalispell wreck Saturday, adding to a deadly weekend when 12 people died on Montana roads.
Debbie Caferro, 58, of Whitefish was attempting to turn left from U.S. 93 onto Grandview Drive when her 1983 Toyota Corolla was struck on the passenger side by a 1992 Nissan Pathfinder traveling north on U.S. 93, according to the Kalispell Police Department.
The T-bone collision was reported at about 2 p.m.
Caferro was transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center. She succumbed later that evening to injuries sustained in the wreck.
The Nissan was driven by a 17-year-old Kalispell youth who sustained minor injuries. He was treated at the scene and released.
The Kalispell Police Department and the Montana Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the accident, according to Kalispell Sgt. Scott Warnell. The initial investigation shows alcohol was not a factor in the wreck and it is believed the victim was wearing her seat belt.
Accidents from Troy to Browning claimed 11 other lives over the weekend.
A 63-year-old woman drove off an embankment and crashed into the Clark Fork River about 13 miles west of Plains on Friday, killing her and two young boys. Search-and-rescue teams recovered their bodies on Sunday after an effort complicated by fast-moving and muddy water.
On Saturday night, a 32-year-old Troy man crashed into a pair of trees near Troy. He and a 21-year-old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
Five people died and two more were injured in a one-vehicle rollover Sunday when a man from Babb lost control of his pickup truck near Browning.
The Glacier County Sheriff’s Office said the crash killed the driver, 29-year-old Jason Hannon of Babb, 23-year-old Kyle Dodson of Browning along with 23-year-old Alicia Ladd and 21-year-old Jeanette Ladd.
The name of the 17-year-old girl killed in the early Sunday crash has not been released.
The Montana Highway Patrol says Hannon was driving a pickup truck above the posted speed limit of 65 mph when he veered off the road and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to slide sideways before rolling several times.
Two other people in the pickup were injured. The patrol says none were wearing seat belts.
A 59-year-old Blackfoot Valley man, Michael J. Murphy of Ovando, died Sunday morning when his vehicle went off Montana 200 near Ovando, rolled and landed partially in the Blackfoot River.
