Bernard 'Bernie' Floyd Goodson, 75

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother-in-law, Bernard “Bernie” Floyd Goodson, 75, of Kellogg, passed away June 15, 2013, at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene. He was born July 21, 1937, in Kellogg. Bernard was the son of Roy and Myrtle (McCloud) Goodson.
Bernard grew up in Lane; he attended elementary school in Lane and then attended and graduated from Rose Lake High School in Rose Lake in 1955. Bernard then attended North Idaho College, the University of Idaho and obtained a degree in accounting from Lewis-Clark State College.
At the age of 20, Bernard joined the U.S. Air Force Air National Guard and served six years.
Bernard married Diane Biotti on Oct. 22, 1960, at the Federated Church in Kellogg.
Bernard first worked at the Bunker Hill Mining Company in February 1961; the first year he worked underground and in the following years, Bernard served as the Bunker Hill cost accountant, until its closure in 1982. He then worked for the Bunker Limited Partnership until its closure. Bernard rejoined Gulf Resources and Chemical with the Pintlar Corporation and was the last official Bunker Hill employee to leave, after developing the medical benefit program for the Bunker Hill retirees. Bernard closed out his working career as vice president, controller for Golden Queen Mining.
In his earlier years, Bernard was very active and community involved; he was a member of the Jaycees, a member of the Kiwanis, and had served as treasurer for the city of Kellogg from July 1971 until January 1976; where he then served on the Kellogg City Council from January 1976 until March 1990; during this time, he was also appointed president of the city council. Bernard was also a member of the United Church of Kellogg (now known as the Mountain View Congregational Church). After the death of Wayne Ross, Bernard was president of the gondola committee and was instrumental in acquiring the financial backing for the gondola, as well as, the creation of Silver Mountain. Bernard loved and enjoyed his family and time at the lake. He loved the outdoors, especially gardening, hunting and fishing.
Bernard is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Diane (Biotti) Goodson of Kellogg; his daughter, Toni (Goodson) Sinclair of Phoenix, Ariz.; his son, Todd and his wife Mary Goodson of Kellogg; his daughter, Traci (Goodson) and her husband Ercole Murano of Urbandale, Iowa; four grandchildren, Luke and Alexia Murano, and Chandler and Sophia Goodson; and his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Trudy Biotti of Dallas, Ore. Bernard is also survived by a former exchange student that was close to his heart, Alfonso Sobrado of Madrid, Spain. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George Goodson; his father-in-law, Charles J. Biotti; his sister-in-law, Nikki Gilbreth and one grandson, Christopher Goodson.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at the Mountain View Congregational Church (formerly the United Church of Kellogg) with Rev. David Langer officiating. A reception and a gathering of family and friends will be held at the church fellowship hall following services. Inurnment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg.
