Jackson "Jack" Allen Gregg passed away peacefully in his home in Billings on Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the age of 89.

Jack was born April 6, 1924, in Whitefish, to Earl and Lillie Gregg. He graduated from Whitefish High School in 1943.

He served in the European Theatre with the 80th Infantry Division during World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart while serving as a messenger on the front lines in France and Belgium. 

Jack married Kathleen Ellis on Oct. 11, 1953, in Whitefish. He retired from work as a telegrapher/clerk for the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railway in 1983.

Jack was an avid golfer, who held the nine-hole record at Whitefish Lake Golf Course for many years. He was a devoted fan of the Whitefish Bulldogs and loved to hold babies, especially his grand- and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; two sisters, Bonnie Palmquist and Jim of Annandale, Minn., and Marcie Conn and Gordon of Marysville, Wash.; sister-in-law, Margaret Gregg, and Robert, of Spokane, Wash.; four children, Jackson "Jack" Gregg and Leona of Helena, Thomas Gregg and Kim of Springfield, Va., Julie Draeger and Dave of Billings, and Holli Miller and Rod of Billings; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. His latest great-granddaughter was born in Helena the same day he died.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim and Robert; sister, Jeananne McKinley; and sister-in-law, Gloria.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, at Peace Lutheran Church in Billings, 1301 Ave. D., Billings, MT 59102. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Whitefish Cemetery.

Memorials can be sent to Peace Lutheran Church or Christ Lutheran Church in Whitefish.
