Two Lincoln County residents died Saturday night at the scene of a one-car accident on Iron Creek Road.

Killed as a result of injuries sustained during the accident were Kayla Marie Eberly, 21, and Jason Haugen, 32. Eberly is from Libby and Haugen from Troy.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, which is still investigating the accident, the left-front wheel of the 1997 Toyota Celica went off the road while maneuvering a curve. The driver, who officials believe was Haugen, overcorrected, crossed both lanes of the roadway, became airborne and hit two trees. The windshield hit the trees, which officials estimate to be at 9:05 p.m. Saturday at the 5.4 mile-marker of Iron Creek Road.

Neither Haugen nor Eberly were wearing seat belts.

The accident report states road conditions were dry and clear.  While it is unknown whether alcohol was a factor, the report states excessive speed played a factor in the northbound double-fatal accident.

Eberly leaves behind a toddler son, 2.
